The Champaign City Council is accepting applications to fill a vacancy in the District 5 Council position. The term of this position will end May, 2011. Beyond the term of this appointment, the District 5 Council seat will be elected in the Spring, 2011 consolidated election for the remainder of the term until 2013.
Applications for the vacant position are available in the Mayor’s Office, City of Champaign, 102 N. Neil Street (2nd floor) or on the City’s website at www.ci.champaign.il.us under the City Council section. Applications will also be mailed upon request by calling (217) 403-8720. All applications must be received in the Mayor’s Office before Noon on Tuesday, March 23, 2010.
In order to be considered for the Council vacancy, applicants must:
- have lived in the City of Champaign for at least one year preceding the appointment
- be a qualified elector
- be current in payments of taxes and debts due the City
- not have been convicted of infamous and certain other crimes
- and a resident of District 5
The Champaign City Council will review applications and interview candidates at a Study Session on April 6, 2010.
