Champaign Police officers were dispatched to the 400 block of E. Columbia Avenue for an “unknown problem.”
Upon arrival, officers determined that a physical altercation had occurred in public view between two men. While investigating this incident, officers received information to indicate that a deceased woman might be found in one of the homes. Officers entered the home and located the severely injured woman who was determined to be deceased.
Based on information obtained by the Champaign Police Department during its investigation, MAURY D. BUTLER was transported from the area and arrested. He was later charged with first-degree murder and transported to the Champaign County Satellite Jail.
