Public Safety Alert – Update


On July 26, 2010, the Champaign Police Department arrested 21 year-old Oscar Torres-Echeveste for aggravated battery in connection with two reported incidents that occurred on July 15th and 16th. In each report, Torres-Echeveste inappropriately touched two female victims as he rode by on a bicycle.

Torres-Echeveste was identified and arrested on June 23, 2010, by Urbana Police Department near Green and Goodwin after a 21-year-old Champaign woman reported that she was walking in the 200 block of Green Street when an unknown man passed her on a bicycle and touched her inappropriately. Torres-Echevestes was released from jail on June 24, 2010, after posting $250.00 bond on this charge.

Champaign Detective Mark Huckstep conducted a follow-up investigation on the previous incidents and established probable cause for the arrest of Torres-Echeveste for inappropriately touching the two female victims. Torres-Echeveste was transported to the Champaign County Jail.
