Champaign Firefighters to Host Two 9-11 Public Ceremonies

Champaign Firefighters will participate in two brief ceremonies in West Side Park, Champaign, to commemorate 9-11. The first event will involve Champaign Fire Department, Local 1260 Honor Guard, bagpipes, and two speakers to remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001 during attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. The memorial site remains under construction, however, the September 11th Ceremony will be held near the unfinished monument.

The second event occurs prior to the University of Illinois vs. Southern Illinois evening football game. Local 1260 Firefighters will host this memorial ceremony in parking Lot 33 in RV Game Day Parking near the corner of First Street and St. Mary’s Road. An American flag hanging from fire apparatus will mark the location of the ceremony.
