Curtis Road Grand Opening ceremony was held on September 21, 2010 at 11:30 a.m. The event was attended by City of Champaign, Village of Savoy, Champaign County, Illinois Department of Transportation, and local and state governmental officials. The project was the result of many years of planning and work, and provides a much needed and improved transportation corridor serving southern portions of the City of Champaign, northern Savoy, and the University of Illinois Campus and Athletic Complex.
The roadway improvements on Curtis Road extend from Staley Road to U.S. Route 45 in Savoy. The project consisted of upgrading the two-lane oil and chip road to Portland Cement Concrete pavement consisting of five lanes on Curtis Road, intersection improvements including traffic signals at Curtis Road and Duncan Road, Curtis Road and Mattis Avenue, and Curtis Road and Prospect Avenue. Other project elements include sidewalks, bike paths, landscaping, roadway lighting, and drainage improvements.
The ceremony was a good opportunity for intergovernmental partners and elected officials to celebrate a successful conclusion to an important community project.
