Washington Street East Watershed Drainage Improvements

The Washington Street East Watershed Drainage Improvements project was awarded September 7, 2010, to Cross Construction of Urbana. The construction cost for the project is $1.8 million dollars. The purpose of this project is to reduce surface flooding in the Washington Street East Watershed, south basin. This is an area roughly bounded by Elm Street on the east, Church Street on the south, Prospect Avenue on the west and the Canadian National Railroad tracks on the north. The work will include construction of almost one mile of new storm sewer ranging in size from 15-inch diameter to 54-inch diameter. A new sewer crossing will be installed under the Canadian National Railroad tracks and a new outfall constructed to the west branch of the north fork of the Boneyard Creek.

Construction work is scheduled to begin the week of October 11, 2010; however, the contractor’s survey crew has been seen doing layout work the week of September 27, 2010.

The consulting engineer, Foth Environmental & Infrastructure, will assist the City with construction review and oversight during the project.
