Champaign police have arrested a suspect in connection with an Aggravated Battery case that occurred on September 14, 2010, in the 400 block of East John Street.
Today, twenty-one year old Tyren L. Scott of Champaign was interviewed by Champaign Detectives and subsequently arrested for his involvement in the aforementioned case. After conducting a month-long investigation, police received information that led to locating and arresting Tyren L. Scott.
On September 14, 2010 at 2:16 a.m., police were dispatched to the 400 block of John Street in reference to a battery that had occurred minutes earlier. Upon arrival, police found a 22 y/o male lying unconscious on the side of the road. A witness to the crime reported walking home with the victim and his female acquaintance when a man, sitting in a car, made a derogatory comment about the woman. When the victim stopped to identify the male, he was pushed to the ground, punched, and knocked unconscious.
The suspect then entered his vehicle and fled the area heading eastbound on John and south onto Fifth Street. The witness reported also seeing an African-American male, about 20-25 years of age, 6’2”, 220 pounds, wearing a black T-shirt and blue jeans seated in the car along with an African-American female, but neither exited the car. The victim was transported to Carle Hospital for treatment of injuries sustained during the battery.
