Police Sergeant Testing

The Human Resources Department and Police Department administered promotional testing for the rank of Police Sergeant on February 13 and 14. Eighteen police officers participated in the testing process. Step one was a written examination covering leadership and supervision, legal guidelines and City/Police Department policy and procedure. Step two involved completion of three assessment center exercises. These work-sample exercises tested the following core dimensions: verbal communication skills, interpersonal skills, judgment, planning and organizing, performing under pressure, public/community relations, problem identification and analysis, management and administration, supervisory knowledge and competency and tactical knowledge in specific areas.

Results of the promotional testing process will be tabulated together with candidate performance evaluation ratings to establish a ranked eligibility list of candidates eligible for promotion to the rank of Sergeant. The list will be in effect for three years, with promotions taking place as vacancies occur.
