Nearly 80 local contractors and builders participated in a highly successful Illinois Energy Conservation Code Seminar hosted by the Champaign Fire Department, Building Safety; Urbana Community Development, Building Safety; and the Home Builders Association East Central Illinois. This was the first time the cities and HBA have co-sponsored such an event, but judging by the participation it won’t be the last.
The State of Illinois is in the process of adopting the 2012 Illinois Energy Conservation Code, which when enacted will require builders to show greater energy efficiency in all new construction.
The four-hour seminar covered the history and an overview of the Illinois Energy Efficient Building Act and the practical application of the Illinois Energy Conservation Code with guest speakers from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, Illinois Capital Development Board and International Energy Conservation Consultants.
The venue and lunch was provided by the Home Builders Association with the Cities of Champaign and Urbana sponsoring the guest speakers. The State of Illinois provided free code books to all attendees.
