On Thursday, April 19 starting at 6 p.m., a Public Open House will be held at the Champaign Public Library, Conference Room C, for the Market Street (Kenyon Rd. to Ford Harris Rd.) roadway improvement project. At the Open House, attendees can view preliminary design exhibits of the corridor and provide input to staff and design engineers about the proposed improvements. Proposed preliminary design exhibits will show complete street features such as a three-lane roadway between Kenyon Road and Olympian Drive with on-street bike lanes and wide shoulders. There will be proposed sidewalk and geometric changes on Market Street in the area under the Interstate 74 overpass. These changes will provide improved pedestrian and bicycle access to north Market Street restaurants and shopping malls from neighborhoods south of Interstate 74.
This Open House is part of a public outreach effort to solicit input on the preliminary design from key stakeholders, area businesses, and property owners along Market Street. The preliminary design and public outreach results will be shared with City Council in Study Session tentatively planned for May 22.
