The Public Works Department hosted their Biennial Public Works Kids’ Day on June 5, 2012. This activity stems from celebrating the APWA Public Works Week to recognize Public Works’ staff for work they do throughout the year.
This event gives children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews of Public Works’ employees an opportunity to experience firsthand the department’s various types of work activities. This year, a record number of 69 kids enjoyed a morning filled with demonstrations, equipment expos and rides, and an obstacle course.
The older kids participated in a geo-caching locating activity, while younger ones enjoyed a public works themed story time. Kids also played an old-fashioned game of red light/green light, but with a twist – an actual traffic signal was used! The successful morning ended with a kid-friendly lunch for all Public Works employees.
