North Fourth Street Extension

Stark Excavating continues work on the North Fourth Street Extension. Concrete curb and gutter has been constructed along the entirety of the project and the granular sub-base has been placed and compacted. This week, Stark has been focusing on pouring the two connection points to Douglass Square and pouring sidewalks along the east side of the future street. A big milestone will be met this week when Stark places the concrete from Bradley Avenue all the way to the project’s northern limit. Next week, the intersection of Bradley Avenue and Fourth Street will be milled, in preparation for placement of new asphalt there. Though some lane closures have been necessary, traffic has moved through the construction site with only slight delays.

This project will improve the intersection of Bradley Avenue and Fourth Street, and will extend Fourth Street approximately 450 feet, past the northern edge of Douglass Square. The project will increase safety in the area, improve access to Douglass Square, and help facilitate local development. The project is currently ahead of schedule, expected to be completed in advance of the September 14, 2012 deadline.
