City of Champaign Storm Response Update

After working from 7 pm to 1 am last night, City of Champaign Public Works Department crews continue to respond to the wind damage inflicted by the storm that passed through the City last night. Crews were back at work at 7 am this morning and are focusing on clearing debris from traffic lanes and sidewalks, maintaining access for vehicles and pedestrians. To expedite these activities, staff will remove debris from City trees, however, homeowners are responsible for removal of debris from trees on private property. Citizens are encouraged to call Public Works Operations at 403-4700 to report street or sidewalk obstructions.

At this time, most damage is being reported in the area north of Windsor Road, South of Springfield Avenue, east of Duncan Road and west of Prospect Avenue. Power has been restored to the traffic signal at the intersection of Mattis Avenue and John Street and it was fully operational again at 8 am this morning. No other traffic signals were impacted by the storm.

Public Works staff will continue working as needed until clean up is completed.
