Arrest Warrants Issued for Fourth of July Homicide

Arrest warrants have been issued for two suspects responsible for the July 4th shooting death of Desirae Austin.

TRESHAUN M. JAKE, 19, of 903 Madison Street, Danville, and ANTHONY L. MEADS, 20, of 204 E. Church Street, Champaign, both had Champaign County warrants for their arrest issued on August 16, 2012. The warrants are for the offense of murder and both list the bail for each individual at $1,000,000. Jake and Meads are currently in-custody at the Vermillion County Jail on unrelated charges.

On Wednesday, July 4th, at approximately 10:24 PM, Champaign Police responded to the 1500 block of Cruising Lane for a report of shots fired. Upon arrival, officers found Desirae Austin unresponsive and suffering from a single gunshot wound. Mrs. Austin was transported to Carle Foundation Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

Champaign Police took Jake and Meads into custody that night for  questioning.

Meads was arrested for unlawful use of weapons and Jake was subsequently released after providing police with a statement.

Detectives from the Champaign Police Department and the Champaign County State’s Attorney’s Office have worked together since this incident occurred to identify the suspects and gather evidence against the individuals responsible for Mrs. Austin’s death.
