The Champaign Police Department has been dispatched to the Carmike Beverly Cinema for a bomb threat.
The theater contacted police after being notified by their corporate office that an unknown caller indicated that nine of the company’s theaters had bombs placed in them. The caller did not specify which theaters were affected, and no information has been received to indicate that the Champaign location has been targeted.
As a precautionary measure, the Champaign Police Department has evacuated approximately 20 employees from the theater and is currently conducting a full search of the building.
Although no streets have been closed, the public is urged to avoid the area until further notice.
Updates will be provided as they become available.
