Champaign Police Investigate Armed Robbery

Champaign police are searching for a suspect in connection with an armed robbery that occurred yesterday evening at the HP Sprinter gas station, located at 2401 W. Springfield Avenue.

Officers were dispatched to the business at 9:11 PM shortly after the robbery had occurred. Police received information that an unknown male ran into the store and pointed a gun at a male employee while demanding money from the cash register. The employee reported engaging in an argument with the suspect, in an attempt to stall him from robbing the business, when the suspect physically struck him. The employee then followed the suspect’s demands and handed over an undisclosed amount of cash. The suspect fled the store running eastbound toward Kenwood Road.

The suspect is described as a light-skinned black male, approximately 5’10” to 6’00” in height, and weighing between 180-200 pounds. He was last seen wearing a black zip-up hooded sweatshirt, red skull cap, white t-shirt, and blue jeans.
