Starting Monday, October 15, 2012, the Canadian National Illinois Central (CNIC) Railroad will begin work to replace the railroad crossing on Country Fair Drive between Church Street and Springer Drive.
The crossing will be completely closed to all traffic while the work is completed. According to CNIC, Country Fair Drive should reopen to traffic by late Friday, October 19, 2012.
The work consists of removing the existing rough timber crossing and replacing with new ties, ballast, rail improvements, full depth rubber crossing surface, and a small amount of asphalt paving.
CNIC will install traffic control signage to detour all north-south through traffic to Mattis Avenue, using University Avenue/Church Street and Springer Drive.
The City of Champaign apologizes for any inconveniences caused by the crossing repairs and thanks the public for their patience and cooperation.
