Quarterly STAR Leadership Institute

The Neighborhood Services Department – Neighborhood Coordination Division hosted its quarterly STAR Leadership Institute on Saturday, October 27 at the Champaign Public Library. Approximately 25 people participated in the Leadership Institute. The topics discussed included a discussion from the University of Illinois Office of Public Engagement staff who introduced their new public engagement portal; Eleanor Blackmon, Public Works Assistant Engineer, presented information on detention pond maintenance guidelines and resources; and John Ruffin, Neighborhood Coordinator, presented an overview of Neighborhood Watch Groups.

The range of workshop topics provided an opportunity for those in attendance at the STAR Leadership Institute to gain valuable information that will assist them in improving their respective neighborhoods. In addition, it gave residents an opportunity to meet other community stakeholders from throughout the City engaged in neighborhood community building initiatives. The quarterly STAR Leadership Institute is an ongoing effort of the Neighborhood Services Department designed to increase the Citizen Engagement Quotient amongst Champaign citizens.
