On Thursday, January 17, 2013, starting at 4 p.m., a Public Open House will be held at the Champaign Public Library, Conference Room C, for the Market Street (Kenyon Rd. to Olympian Dr.) roadway improvement project. At the Open House, visitors can view final design plans and exhibits that illustrate the proposed three-lane corridor with bike lanes and wide shoulders. Staff and design engineers will be available to answer questions about the project. Other project features include extensive sidewalk improvements, new streetlights, and traffic lane improvements in the area under the Interstate 74 overpass. These changes will provide improved pedestrian and bicycle access to north Market Street restaurants, shopping malls, and employment centers from neighborhoods south of Interstate 74. Construction could begin as early as April and is expected to be completed in October of this year.
