Champaign Police Investigate Armed Robbery (1201 S. Mattis)

Champaign police are currently searching for an armed robbery suspect who entered the Champaign County Schools Employees Credit Union this morning and demanded money.

Police were notified at 10:52 AM that the suspect entered the credit union while armed with what appeared to be a handgun. He demanded money and then left the bank with an undisclosed amount of cash. The suspect was last seen heading westbound from the north side of the credit union.

There were three employees and no customers in the bank at the time of the robbery.

None reported being physically harmed.

The suspect is described as a black male in his mid-thirties, 5’5”, and 170 to 175 lbs. He was wearing the following clothing: black stocking cap or do-rag, black cloth covering his neck, black jacket, black jeans, and black shoes. The suspect was carrying a black messenger bag with a strap.

Police are currently searching for the suspect and are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying him.
