Neighborhood Open House for State Street Restriping

An open house was held Thursday, March 14, 2013 at the Champaign Public Library to share information on the upcoming restriping of State Street, from Hessel Boulevard to Fox Drive. Staff from Public Works, Planning and the project consultant Foth Engineers, were present to answer questions. Each household and business in the project area received a postcard notifying them of the project, the project website and the open house. The restriping will be completed during the 2013 construction season and should take about one week to complete.

On State Street, from north to south, the restriping begins at Hessel Boulevard. From Hessel Boulevard to Kirby Avenue, the restriping will include bicycle lanes on both sides of the street, with parking on the west side of the street. Any on-street parking on the east side of State Street from Hessel Boulevard to Kirby Avenue will be removed. From Kirby Avenue to Fox Drive, bicycle lanes will be striped on both sides of the street. This section does not currently have on-street parking.

This project will continue the existing markings on State Street as part of the State Street and Randolph Street bicycle network. When the project is completed this will also link to Mattis Park and the Boulware Trail trailhead at Fox Drive.
