STAR Expo and Awards Ceremony to happen April 25th

On Thursday, April 25, 2013, the Neighborhood Services Department and the Neighborhood Services Advisory Board will host the Fourth Annual STAR (Service Together Achieves Results) Expo and Awards Ceremony.

The STAR Expo allows for an annual community education and networking opportunity. Over 35 vendors will be available to showcase the latest projects, initiatives, products, services and information that promotes civic involvement and neighborhood wellness. There will also be 5 mini workshops:

  • 2013 Construction Update – City of Champaign Public Works Department
  • HOA Steward – Resources for Homeowner Association Neighborhoods
  • Interfaith Community Engagement Workshop
  • Champaign County Economic Development Business Network Initiatives
  • Police-Community Partnership Initiatives – Champaign Police Department

The STAR Awards Ceremony, presented by the City of Champaign Neighborhood Services Department and the Neighborhood Services Advisory Board, is held to recognize outstanding civic activities of local citizens, nominated during the STAR Awards nomination period earlier this year, who are working to make the City of Champaign a great place to live, work and play. Dave Benton,WCIA News Channel 3 News Anchor, will again host the awards ceremony. The 2013 honorees are:

  • Community Partner Award with 5 nominees (Bricklayers & Allied Craftworkers Local #8 Illinois, Human Kinetics, Lincoln’s Challenge Academy, Lynette Dodds, Stacy Harwood)
  • Difference Maker Award with 4 nominees (Melany Jackson, Patrick Connolly, Rob Meister, Rose Kaczmarowski)
  • Good Neighbor Award with 4 nominees (Barbara Ragheb, Ellen Holy, Nina P Sibley, Rob Siedenburg)
  • Neighborhood Leadership Award with 5 nominees (Amy Revilla, James Creighton, Michael Giboney, Myrtle Ali, Sylvie Capell)
  • Neighborhood of the Year Award with 2 nominees (Cove Condominiums of Champaign HOA, United Garden Hills Neighborhood Association)
  • Neighborhood-Community Building Award with 3 nominees (Azark David Cobbs, Carletta Donaldson, Eric Green)
  • Rising Star Award with 2 nominees (Claire Johnson, Daniel and Nicolas Ramkumar)
