Prior to the City of Champaign Council meeting next Tuesday, April 23, 2013, Champaign Fire and Police Departments will honor nearly a dozen people who in the last year found themselves in the midst of an emergency. Faced with crisis situations, these civic-minded helpers and heroes provided exemplary aid to their fellow citizens and the Champaign police officers and firefighters.
A cookie and punch reception will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 6:55 p.m. in the City Building atrium. Council Members, department heads and nominating police and fire officers are encouraged to be on hand to personally thank the 2013 Heroes and Helping Hands recipients at the reception. Honorees will be recognized at 7:00 p.m. at the start of the Council meeting.
Honorees can be available for media interviews at the reception (6:30 – 6:50 PM) and after City Council recognition.
