Arbor Day

Arbor DayThe Forestry Section celebrated Arbor Day on Friday, April 26 with a Pre-Kindergarten class from the Champaign Park District. On this sunny day, the children enjoyed an interactive session that included the history, science, and the benefits of planting trees. At the end of the session, the children helped shovel soil onto the young tree’s root zone before the tree was watered and mulched. One ‘Greenspire’ Linden tree was planted in the parking lot at 201 W. Hill Street.

The Arbor Day Proclamation and the public educational activity will help Champaign maintain its status as a ‘Tree City’ in the country for 2014.

This year marks Champaign’s 28th consecutive year with this honor.
