Community Development Specialist Greg Skaggs attended the real estate closing for 510 E. Beardsley, transferring the ownership of this new home from Homestead Corporation to The Center for Women in Transition. Originally planned as a NSP project, funding for the demolition and new construction came from the HOME program. Funds from Champaign were used for the demolition of the existing home while Urbana, as the lead entity in the HOME Consortium, used required Community Housing Development Organization (CHDO) set aside funds for the construction of the new home. The Center for Women in Transition will use the home for rental housing for a low income family. There is a land use agreement recorded to ensure that the property remains affordable to low income families for a 20-year period.
