Bicycle Friendly Community Recognition Event is July 9

The community is invited to an event to recognize Champaign being designated a “Bicycle Friendly Community” by the League of American Bicyclists. The event will be Tuesday, July 9, 2013 at 6:15 p.m. outside the City Building at the corner of Neil and Chester Streets. The event will feature the unveiling of the new Bicycle Friendly Community sign with remarks from the Mayor and others. Light refreshments will be available. Similar to Bike to Work Day, the bicycling community is highly encouraged to ride to the event to show their support for bicycling in the community. Following the event, the City Council will be presented with the award at their regularly scheduled meeting at 7:00 p.m. in the City Council Chambers, 102 North Neil Street, Champaign. The public is welcome to attend this meeting as well. 

Bicycle Friendly Community Recognition Event is July 9 The League of American Bicyclists is a national, non-profit organization who represents bicyclists in the movement to create safer roads, stronger communities, and a bicycle-friendly America. The “Bicycle Friendly Community” program recognizes communities committed to making bicycling a real transportation and recreation option for all people. Champaign becomes just the fifth community in Illinois to be recognized for efforts to become more bicycle-friendly.
