Investigation Leads to Arrests for Weapons Offenses

On July 9, 2013 at approximately 1:45 PM Allen M. Williams, (21) and Laine R. Hopkins, (21), both of Champaign, were arrested by the US Marshal Service in Cicero, Illinois. Williams and Hopkins both were wanted on Champaign County Arrest warrants for their connection to weapons being found in a Champaign hotel room on June 26, 2013. On June 26, 2013 Champaign Police responded to the Hawthorne Suites for a report of subjects needing to be removed from the hotel due to a report of illegal drugs being found in their room. The investigation revealed that Williams and Hopkins were the occupants of this room. Hopkins left prior to police arrival and Williams fled on foot while officers were on scene. A search warrant for the room was obtained and four handguns, two of which were reported stolen, ammunition, and a small amount of suspected cannabis was found in the room. Williams and Hopkins are currently being held at the Champaign County Jail. Williams is charged with the offense of Felon in Possession of a Firearm – a class 3 felony with his bail set at $5000,000. Hopkins is charged with the offense of Possession of Stolen Firearm – a class 2 felony and her bail is set at $250,000.
