On Saturday July 13 and 20, the Neighborhood Services Department Coordination Division implemented the 2013 Neighborhood Cleanup. The neighborhood cleanup event is held annually and provides an opportunity for residents in low-income neighborhoods to discard unwanted household items. Neighborhood Services Department staff members Cliff Peete, Colleen Madera, David Oliver, Jason Greenly, John Ruffin, Mya Clements and Tim Spear assisted with the event over the two weekends. A total of 198 citizens were assisted at the Allied Waste Transfer Station over the two Saturday cleanup dates. Additionally, Public Works provided curbside pickup for 74 senior and/or disabled residents on the Monday following each Saturday drop off date. During the first week, 39.6 tons of disposable household items were collected, with another 52.33 tons of disposable household items collected the second week for a total of 91.93 tons collected during the two week event.
