Shooting Investigation – (N. Sixth Street/E. Bradley Avenue)

Champaign – A Multi-Jurisdictional Investigative Team is currently investigating a shooting incident that occurred this morning near the intersection of N. Sixth Street and Bradley Avenue.

At 1:20 AM, Champaign Police officers initiated a traffic stop in the area. Preliminary information indicates that during the course of the traffic stop, the driver produced a gun, a scuffle ensued, and the weapon discharged striking the driver. The driver and the officer involved were both taken to the hospital for treatment of injuries.  No further information is available at this time due to the pending investigation.

Champaign Police Chief Anthony Cobb requested the Multi-Jurisdictional Investigative Team, led by the Illinois State Police to conduct a comprehensive review of this incident.

An update on the investigative efforts will be provided at 10:00 AM today, August 14, 2013.
