Fire Responds to Piper City Hazardous Materials Incident

The Champaign Fire Department Hazardous Materials Team responded to Piper City, IL on Thursday, September 12, 2013 in response to a hazardous materials incident. Upon arrival twelve (12) members of the team assessed the incident and a hazardous materials entry team entered to the building and found the presence of hydrogen cyanide. The team removed the product causing the issue and in turn mitigated the hazardous situation. The entry team also discovered a small fire in the building. The fire was extinguished; the building was cleared by the hazardous materials team. The incident was then turned back over to the Piper City Fire Department.
