Police Investigate Domestic Dispute

On October 15, 2013 at 11:48 a.m., Champaign Police Officers were dispatched to the 2500 block of W. Springfield Ave for a reported domestic dispute.

Upon arrival, officers learned from the 28 year-old female victim that she had recently fled from inside the apartment, and suspect Jerry O’Neal II and their three month-old infant child were still inside. She stated that O’Neal had come to the apartment at approximately 8:30 a.m. this morning, and he repeatedly battered her while he was there. She stated that O’Neal’s 16 year-old relative was also still inside the apartment. The victim was concerned that O’Neal would harm the infant child.

Officers surrounded the apartment, and attempted to make contact with O’Neal for approximately 30 minutes. At approximately 12:30 p.m., officers made contact with O’Neal and his sixteen year-old relative at the door. The sixteen year-old attempted to flee; however, a Champaign Police Officer chased him and apprehended him within a short distance. During this arrest, the Champaign Police Officer received minor injuries, which he received treatment for.

O’Neal was arrested for Domestic Battery and an outstanding warrant for Manufacture/ Delivery of Cannabis (10-30 grams).

The sixteen year-old male was arrested for Resisting a Peace Officer and an outstanding juvenile warrant of apprehension.
