Narrative: At approximately 2:45 a.m. the Champaign Fire Department responded to a report of possible smoke coming from a building at 40 E. Springfield. Upon arrival, the incident was upgraded to a working fire and in a short time was declared defensive. No one was at home in the apartment at the time of the fire. No civilian injuries occurred. One firefighter was injured at the scene. The firefighter was transported to Carle Foundation Hospital and then transferred to Memorial Hospital in Springfield.
