Interstate 74 – Night Closures for Sign Truss Removal and Replacement

The Illinois Department of Transportation announced today that Interstate 74 will be closed at various locations between Interstate 57 and US 45 (Cunningham Avenue) for removal and replacement of sign trusses on Interstate 74. Weather permitting, lane closures will begin on December 8, 2013 and will continue through the end of December. All lane closures are restricted between the hours of 9:00 PM and 5:30 AM Sunday night through Friday morning. The tentative road closure schedule is as follows: December 9th – between Interstate 57 and Prospect Avenue eastbound; December 10th – between Interstate 57 and Prospect Avenue eastbound and between Prospect Avenue and Neil Street eastbound; December 11th – between Prospect Avenue and Neil Street eastbound and between Neil Street and Lincoln Avenue eastbound; December 12th – between Neil Street and Lincoln Avenue eastbound; December 13th – no road closures; December 16th – between Cunningham Avenue (US 45) and Lincoln Avenue westbound; December 17th – between Cunningham Avenue (US 45) and Lincoln Avenue westbound and between Lincoln Avenue and Neil Street westbound; December 18th – between Lincoln Avenue and Neil Street westbound; December 19th – between Neil Street and Prospect Avenue westbound; and December 20th – no road closures. Full road closures will be limited to 15 minutes per closure. Full closures will be limited to the hours between midnight and 4:00 AM. All lanes of Interstate 74 will be reopened the following morning by 5:30 AM. Message boards and the State Police will be used during the road closures. 

The overall project has an anticipated completion date of December 31, 2013, weather permitting. The contractor for the $523,585 project is Collins and Hermann. 

Motorists are advised to slow down, obey posted limits and drive carefully through this and all work zones.
