Champaign Police Department Reports Successful Click It or Ticket/Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over Mobilizations

Who: The Champaign Police Department & Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT)

What: From November 18 – December 1, 2013, IDOT supported enforcement Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) to remind motorists to buckle up and not drive impaired, both day and night, during the merged “Click It or Ticket/Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” mobilizations. The Champaign Police Department joined other state and local law enforcement agencies across Illinois to reduce highway fatalities by cracking down on unbuckled motorists and impaired drivers.

During the mobilization, the Champaign Police Department issued:

  • 17 seat belt citations
  • 3 DUI arrests
  • 3 uninsured motorists
  • 2 speeding citations

The annual “Click It or Ticket” mobilization may be over in Champaign, but that is no excuse to stop using your seat belt. “If you or your passengers are caught not wearing a seat belt, day or night, you could be cited for the safety violation,” says Sgt. Joe Ketchem.
