Champaign Police Explorer Post 258

The “First Nighter” Orientation kickoff for the Champaign Police Department Explorer Post 258 was held on January 23, 2014.  Volunteer Police Officers who manage and conduct Explorer Post 258 met with eleven recruits and their parents for the program orientation.  Champaign Unit 4 Schools provided the refreshments for the First Nighter and the local Target Store donated $1,000 to the program.

Explorer Post 258 is a Career Exploration program for young men and women age 14 (must have completed 8th grade) to 20.    The program will help the recruits make a more informed decision about a future career in law enforcement and determine if it is the right career choice for them.

Exploring leaders volunteer their time and are required by the Boy Scouts to complete an application and complete their Learning for Life Youth Protection Training Course.  The leaders provide real-world career experiences for young adults.  It’s not about lectures and slide shows – it’s about gaining practical experience in a career field.  The result is a program of activities that helps youth pursue their special interests, grow and develop.
