City of Champaign Announces Human Resources Director Appointment – Jason Hood Assumes New Role September 22

City Manager Dorothy Ann David announced this morning that Jason Hood has been appointed as Human Resources Director effective today, September 22, 2014.

“Jason’s unique blend of human resource and community relations experience will be an asset to our City.  His advanced degrees, combination of private and public sector experience, and knowledge of our City organization are all strengths that set him apart from other candidates. In his tenure with our City, he has demonstrated a commitment to our City’s values and to serving others,” says City Manager David. “It is my pleasure to be able to promote an internal candidate that is so well-qualified to lead our HR function.”

Mr. Hood has over ten (10) years experience in the public and private sector as a Human Resources, Employee Relations and Labor Relations professional. He has education and experience in leadership positions in higher education, municipal government, Fortune 100 companies and non-profit associations. He has served as the Senior Director of Labor and Industrial Relations for the Association of Union Constructors, Human Resources/Americans with Disabilities Act Manager for Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., Human Resources/Equal Employment Opportunity Manager with Tyson Foods and the Human Resources Specialist for the City of Decatur, IL. He holds a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Illinois College of Law, an MBA from Millikin University Tabor School of Business, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Wabash College.

Jason Hood was hired by the City of Champaign to serve as a Community Relations Specialist in July 2012 and was promoted to the position of Community Relations Manager/Compliance Officer in October 2013. Mr. Hood was selected from a field of 45 candidates considered during a national search following the retirement of Chris Bezruki in May 2013.  His salary will be $110,000.00 per year.
