Residents looking for solutions on how to dispose of their live Christmas tree have options this year. The Landscape Recycling Center will accept trees at no cost during the month of January 2015. The Landscape Recycling Center is located at 1210 E. University Ave in Urbana and can be reached at 217-344-5323 for additional information.
The City of Champaign is also offering Christmas tree pickup between January 5 and January 16. Residents may participate by placing their tree within four feet of the curb by 6:00am on their scheduled collection day. Collection days will be January 5-9 for the Orange Zone and January 12-16 for the Blue Zone.
In order to determine which zone you reside in, see the below map and schedule. Trees with stands, decorations, tinsel, lights, artificial snow-frost, plastic bags, or any other material that makes the tree non-recyclable will not be collected. All collected trees (through either option) are chipped and made into garden mulch.
