Champaign Police Make an Arrest Following a Shooting

On April 8, 2015 at approximately 2:43 PM, Champaign Police officers were responding to the 400 Block of W. Maple St concerning a shots fired investigation that reportedly occurred the night prior. While officers were on this call, they reported hearing several shots fired in the area of W. Beardsley and N. Elm.  Upon investigation at the scene, officers took two individuals into custody who were seen running from the area. Police found one gunshot victim in the 1100 block of N. Elm St.  The injured party sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his lower body and officers provided immediate medical assistance until medics arrived for hospital transport.

When officers responded to the area of Beardsley & Elm, they observed two subjects fleeing on foot.  One of the detained subjects was interviewed and released after investigations indicated the subject was a bystander running from the area after hearing shots fired.

The second subject, 20-year-old Tarrell L. Boatman was pursued on foot by an officer who reported seeing Boatman in possession of a weapon, which he tossed during the pursuit.  Officers apprehended Boatman and later recovered the weapon along the flight path.  Boatman was arrested for the incident on charges of Aggravated Battery with a Firearm.
