Champaign Fire Department responded to a report of a working fire at 604 E. White St. on May 13, 2015 at 8:18 p.m. Upon arrival, fire crews found heavy fire showing from the northeast side of the structure on the second floor and extending to the third floor. Fire Crews initially deployed a master stream to knock down the main body of the fire. Fire crews then deployed multiple hand lines into the structure to extinguish the remaining fire. No civilian or fire personnel injuries were reported. Champaign Police assisted with traffic control. University of Illinois Emergency Deans Office, Emergency Services Support Team and the American Red Cross responded to relocate residents of the building.The Champaign Fire Department reminds residents to always have working smoke detectors.
