2015 Annual Neighborhood Cleanups

On July 18 and 25, the Neighborhood Services Department partnered with the Public Works Department to implement the 2015 Annual Neighborhood Cleanups. The Neighborhood Cleanups are held in order to provide residents in low-income neighborhoods throughout the city the opportunity to dispose of unwanted bulk household furniture and non-putrescible waste items free of charge.

This year the event format was revised in order to provide better access and create greater efficiency related to implementing the program. More than five thousand households in Planning Areas 1, 2, 7, 8, 14 and portions of 4 and 9 were mailed vouchers to participate in the 2015 Annual Neighborhood Cleanup Program.

The Public Works Department offered up Public Works facility as the collection site, and Public Works staff supported Neighborhood Services staff and community volunteers to carry out the event, assisting 122 citizens at the Public Works collection site over the two cleanup dates. Additionally, Public Works provided curbside pickup for 87 senior and/or disabled residents on the Monday following each Saturday drop-off date.
