Champaign Police Department Thanksgiving “Click It or Ticket” Enforcement

The Champaign Police Department conducted traffic enforcement from November 16-29, 2015, reminding motorists to buckle up during the “Click It or Ticket” Thanksgiving Holiday mobilization. The Champaign Police Department joined other state and local law enforcement agencies across Illinois in providing information and enforcement around hazardous driving, with focused attention on unbuckled motorists.

During the mobilization, the Champaign Police Department issued:

  • 14 seat belt citations
  • 3 speeding citations
  • 2 cell phone violations
  • 2 uninsured motorists violations

“Safety is the priority,” says Sergeant Geoff Coon. “Many people have lost their lives and/or have taken the lives of others by not adhering to rules of the road.  Our goals are to increase awareness and avoidance of hazardous driving behaviors, and to influence a decline in traffic fatalities.”

Champaign Police continue to encourage seat belt safety to drivers and all passengers.  If you or your passengers are caught not wearing a seat belt, day or night, you will be cited for the safety violation.

The Thanksgiving law enforcement mobilization was funded by federal traffic safety funds through the Illinois Department of Transportation and is part of the nationwide Click It or Ticket and Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaigns.
