Fire Department Responds to Facade Collapse – 204 E John St.

The Champaign and Urbana Fire Departments responded to a report of a partial collapse of the brick facade at 204 E John Street, Monday, December 28, 2015 at 9:56 a.m. Upon arrival on the scene, crews reported that a 15 foot section of brick facade had fallen from the building and onto a nearby unoccupied vehicle.

Five (5) pieces of Fire/Rescue equipment and approximately thirteen (13) emergency response personnel responded to the call from the Champaign and Urbana Fire Departments.  Captain John Mills was the commanding officer of this incident.  The building was evaluated by a structural engineer and found to be safe structurally.  There were no firefighter or civilian injuries reported.  The Champaign Police Department provided traffic control at the scene.  No residents were displaced as a result of the incident.

The Champaign Fire Department reminds all citizens to maintain a working smoke alarm in their place of residence and to have and practice a home escape plan.
