Entry-Level Police Officer Recruitment Update

On February 17, the Police and Human Resources Departments hosted a study session for those interested in taking the entry-level police officer written exam. Approximately 90 people participated in this voluntary session, which included a practice exam and an opportunity to ask questions and receive information about the test format and content. This study session was led by the City’s testing consultant, Stanard and Associates, along with Sgt. Geoff Coon (Champaign Police Department) and Stacy Rachel (Human Resources Department).

The mandatory orientation and written exam for entry-level police officers will take place in March.  Applicants with the top 100 passing scores will be invited to an oral interview with the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners in April.  The Board will use these scores and interviews to establish a rank-order eligibility list for advancement in the hiring process. Police Officers may be selected from this list as vacancies occur during the next twelve months.

The City received 302 applications for entry-level police officers this year – a 22% increase over last year.
