Demolition Begins on Site of Future Midtown Plaza

The Midtown Plaza project officially began this week with the demolition of six vacant structures on a site on First Street overlooking the Boneyard Second Street Basin.  When completed, CaptureMidtown Plaza will consist of two new five-story, mixed use buildings.  Dan Hamelberg of the University Group will soon be submitting an application for a Planned Development to finalize the design of the two new buildings. Construction is expected to begin by the Fall.  Last month, City Council approved a Development Agreement which provides for incentives through the North Campustown Tax Increment Finance District.  The project will add over 30,000 square feet of commercial space on the first floor and over 100 apartments above.  A highlight of the project will be the transformation of the Stoughton Street extension from First Street to a public pedestrian plaza leading to the Boneyard Second Street Basin.
