Pedestrian Crossing Improvements

Pedestrian Crossing Improvements Near Christie Clinic

Within the next few weeks, Christie Clinic will be making safety improvements to three of the pedestrians’ crossings near their Downtown Champaign location.  The three locations are:  crossing Walnut, just south of Logan Street; crossing Neil Street, just north of Clark Street; and crossing Randolph, just south of Clark Street.  These existing crossings will be enhanced with the installation of Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons (RRFBs).  When activated by a push button, flashing lights alert motorists to pedestrians in the area.

Christie Clinic is donating the equipment to the City of Champaign.  More extensive improvements to these crossings are scheduled to be made by the City of Champaign in 2017 and 2018.  At that time, the City may choose to move the devices to other suitable locations.
