Government 101 Class Kicks Off for Second Year

The Champaign City Government 101 Academy kicked off September 15, 2016, with a welcome from Deputy Mayor Paul Faraci and a session on the City Council and City Manager’s Office. Class participants learned about the council-manager form of government, the various roles of the Council, Mayor, and City Manager, Boards and Commissions, liquor licensing, and the responsibilities of the Mayor’s Office, City Manager’s Office, Community Relations Office, and Communications Division.  Attendees also participated in a mock Council meeting to learn how the City Council conducts business.

The Academy is facilitated by the Neighborhood Services Department and meets 12 times through mid-November.  The Academy is full – with 36 residents registered and more placed on a waiting list.  The Academy will culminate with a graduation ceremony during the December 6 Council meeting.
