I was born and raised in Champaign and was lucky enough to be a part of the first graduating class of Centennial High School. I attended Eastern Illinois University and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Education. I went on to complete my Masters degree in Guidance and Counseling in 1999, working in education throughout my professional career, serving as an educator from preschool to college.
I taught third grade at Kenwood School and worked in the County nursing home as the Director of Childcare for more than fifteen years. After I finished my career at the County nursing home, I switched gears and became involved in politics.
I currently live in Champaign with my husband, Steve. I have two grown children, one of whom lives in Los Angeles. I also have two grandchildren. I was elected to City Council in 2007 and was recently re-elected in 2011 for a second term as an at-large Council Member.
