I attended Champaign Central High School and graduated from the University of Illinois in 1989. After graduation, I accepted a job as the Building Manager at Bromley Hall, a privately owned 13-story certified dormitory; I worked there for two years.
After working at Bromley Hall, I was self-employed for eight years. I owned and operated three businesses: a 200-seat restaurant and bar, a 10-seat sandwich shop, and a 400-seat banquet and catering facility, all located in downtown Champaign, Illinois.
After all of this, I worked for the State of Illinois for nine years. I started working for the Illinois Department of Commerce East Central Regional team in May of 2004 as the Senior Account Manager. In 2007, I became the Interim Regional Manager. In 2009, I completed the year-long Economic Development Finance Training Program and earned an Economic Development Finance Professional certificate from the National Development Council.
I currently live in Champaign with my wife, Stephanie, and my daughter, Ellie. I served on the Champaign County Board from 2000-2002, was appointed to City Council in 2009, serving District 5, and was re-elected in 2013.
