About Deborah Frank Feinen

Mayor Deborah Frank Feinen has been a proud resident of Champaign for more than fifty years. Deb lives in Champaign with her husband, Chuck, and two daughters, Karlee and Cate. She is committed to Champaign and building on its success as a great place to live, work, play and stay.

Deb earned a B.A. in Psychology and Education from Mount Holyoke College and a Juris Doctor from the IIT-Chicago Kent College of Law. As an attorney, Deb has had a varied career in both the public and private sectors including owning her own firm and her current position as In-House Corporate Counsel for TSI Commercial Floor Covering, Inc..

Prior to being on the City Council, Deb served as a Champaign County Board member for fourteen years and as the vice-Chair of the County Board. Deb was appointed to the Champaign City Council in 2006, as an At-Large representative. She was subsequently re-elected twice and was elected Mayor in 2015, and re-elected 2019 and 2023.

In 2017, Deb was honored by the Girl Scouts of East Central Illinois as a Woman of Distinction and in 2018, she was named an Athena by the Champaign County Chamber of Commerce and as a distinguished Alum of Centennial High School by the Champaign-Urbana Schools Foundation. In 2020, Deb was selected for the Bloomberg Harvard City Leadership Initiative Class of 2021. Deb joined the Illinois Municipal League Board in 2020 and currently is the Board President.

Deb has passionately pursued positive change in Champaign, including supporting the creation of the City’s Equity Engagement Department, advocating for police technology such as license plate readers, and tackling long-needed infrastructure improvements like the Garden Hills Drainage Project.
