Library Project Wraps Up in July

The entire library project is on schedule for completion in time for a July 27, 2008, dedication celebration.

In mid-June, Williams Brothers was on-site for the last time, pouring concrete to finish the 12-foot-wide sidewalk from Randolph Street to the front entry. On July 2, Cross Construction completed the final pour for the project, closing the gap in the sidewalk and curb that was left from the temporary parking entrance. Customers now enter the parking lot from Randolph or State Street onto Clara Lane.

All four parking islands have been installed with curbing, irrigation, and conditioned dirt in place. Many of the trees, shrubs, and perennials have been planted in the islands, with landscapers working around rain delays. Champaign Asphalt should be able to lay the final layer of asphalt on the south side of the parking lot during the week of July 14, after the parking island landscaping is finished.

Otto Baum should begin installing two limestone and brick “Clara Lane” signs next week. Concrete pads for the signs are already in place.

The patio pavers, with donor names and dedications engraved in stainless steel strips, were installed on July 2. The patio will not open until landscaping around it is completed later this month.

HDC Engineering has been working with Deputy City Attorney Trisha Crowley to submit the plat application for the library block. This will combine all of the small plats for the library property into one plat.
